The Beginning of this Natural Journey

Hello everyone. I wanted to introduce myself. I'm The Naturalista Next Door and I am fairly new to natural hair. I wanted to create this blog for those of you that are Natural , new Naturals and those that are transitioning and thinking about becoming Natural.

When I was thinking about going natural in 2010 I was not ready. I had been transitioning for 4 months and the curly crack pulled me back in, as it was a convience and I felt it made my hair more manageable. Trying hard to deny the fact it was causing my hair to weaken and break off. Shedding and thinning, my hair overall was not healthy.

I reached my breaking point on March 17, 2012. The two textures were killing and I was not happy with my hair. My hair was not working with me at all. I called a beautician that my friend recommended and asked if she could do my big chop. As I took what seemed to be a long ride to her shop, I started second guessing it. Speaking to her I was able to relax and she was not scissor happy person. She cut off all the permed ends.

I was scared of how people would feel since my hair was short. My mom cried because she had never seen my hair that short. When my son saw my hair he said, "Mommy, you have cool hair." His acceptance meant so much to me. The stares were weird for a while but my hair and my self love grew. Finally I was accepting and loving the new Natural me.
